Several users often complain slow down of old iPhone. This is a perennial problem especially facing two or more generations old iPhone. Whether it is sluggish performance, apps take longer to download. Be it iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, here are tips that will help you speed up your iPhone performance. While iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus are pretty powerful versions, older generation of iPhone do create problems. Most computing devices face slowdown as memory fills up and new version of software is installed.

Here are some tips to improve speed and performance of your iPhone

Check Location and Background Settings

Always keep a check on your phone’s background settings. It is important to know whether the device accesses location or background app refresh. If there are several apps installed and they’re constantly refreshing in the background, this can cause some slowdown and battery drain.

In order to stop access to background app refresh, follow these steps

  • Launch the Settings app and tap on General.
  • Choose Background App Refresh.
  • Turn the feature OFF or individually select apps that you wish to refresh data in the background.

LOCATION BASED

  • Launch Settings app and tap on Privacy.
  • Choose Location Services.
  • Select apps that access your location and how.

REBOOTING YOUR IPHONE

Sometimes sluggish performance can be fixed with a simple step such as rebooting. Just hold down Home button and Power button together and hold them till you see Apple logo. You can then release them.

UPDATE YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM

Many times just updating mobile operating system can fasten your iPhone and ensure a seamless performance. Before you update operating system, connect to Wi-Fi and back up your phone, update your phone’s software, and make sure that your phone can handle it. Newer operating systems might not be optimized for older or lower-cost phones.

iPhone: Go to “Settings,” then “General,” and then “Software Update.”

OPT FOR FACTORY RESET

When all the tips fail, it is best to initiate a full or factory reset. This will restore your phone settings to default settings when you purchased it with a robust operating system and current firmware updates. A caveat: Opting for factory reset will remove all your photos, videos, text messages, apps, and any important files you might have on your iPhone. So backup and encrypt data before you reset your iPhone.
