On 4th September, 2013 Samsung will release the Galaxy Gear smartwatch in 2 days during the IFA Event, at Berlin. The much awaited Galaxy Note III and some other products will also be launched at the event. However pictures of the Galaxy Gear Smartwatch have already been leaked over the internet, three days ahead of its official release. The leaked photos are actually stills from an 'internal promotional marketing video' that was created by an independent team working with Samsung.

The Looks of Samsung Galaxy Gear Smartwatch

The leaked images show a Galaxy Gear smartwatch that measures roughly three inches diagonally across a square screen. The large bezels on the top and bottom are in rectangular shape, with rounded corners. It has around 2.5 inches bright OLED touchscreen with a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels . It is black and grey color, however it is considered as a prototype, so the colors might be changed in the final version. The wristband is gawky and masculine.

The Features of Smartwatch

The smartwatch is rumored to have a 4212 Exynos processor (developed by Samsung) running at 1.5 GHz and accompanied by a Mali- 400 MP4 GPU. The gadget is expected to work with bluetooth connectivity to the Galaxy devices (like GS 4, Note 2,3, Tab etc). Although with the installation of APK in any other Android smartphone, it is expected to work with many other devices as well. It is also expected to support Wi-Fi for Internet access, including e-mail, even when it’s not connected to a smartphone. The device will be running Android 4.3 version. The expected battery power is around 24 hours with modest use, but around 10 hours with more active usage. It is also equipped with an inbuilt camera of 4 megapixels within the strap along with tiny speakers in the clasp.

The Health Factor

The watch is expected to be more for a fitness freaks. It can can track the user's health data, including steps, heart rate, calorie intake while he is working out. The user can keep track of his food intake by taking photos of the meals. As per some sources, a health start-up, based in Palo Alto, Calif, has been working with Samsung for several months, to develop fitness apps for the smartwatch.

Verdict of Samsung Galaxy Gear Smartwatch

As of now, Sony and Pebble are the two major companies manufacturing smartwatches. So Samsung Galaxy Gear will be seen as a direct competitor against them. Sony and Pebble have been doing fine job but Samsung may hopefully raise the benchmark for the smartwatch users. Samsung is expected to release multiple versions of its smartwatch in the next few years, with more and more apps and hopefully a much better battery life. Meanwhile, Apple fans are also waiting for the release of iWatch. So eventually, it looks like, the wrist-wars are round the corner.
